I was a VPS customer for a year (plus). My server uptime was always 100% and I used a fraction of my RAM and CPU. Still my sites were down on a daily basis. Sometimes just 10-15 minutes, sometimes an hour or more. And you probably do not see this if you don't check! Hostgator claimed network issues, DDoS attacks, and overloaded nodes. I tried to be patient with them for more than a month, but they could simply not resolve the issues and provide a stable environment. I guess, the business model is to sell as many VPS as possible on each node, no matter what.

If you really want your websites to be accessible at all times, look somewhere else! I moved to a dedicated server with less RAM and CPU and have not seen any issues since.

Before I purchased the plan from Hostgator, I read a lot of positive reviews over the Internet, but I think most of user reviews are made by their staffs, because I can not explain so much praise. If you want the slowest hosting company in the world... choose HostGator! Trust'me, I bought a plan (03/20/2013) because of user reviews HostGator is awsome, HostGator is excelent...blah blah blah...". Your website speed will be incredibly lower. By the way for an European user. I think they have very old servers. I don't know for U.S users.

It would have been helpful to receive a notice before the credit card was charged. In fact, I have used the hosting account for a long time and don't have a plan to renew.

I moved my business website from Dreamhost to HostGator on 12/30. At first everything looked good. Their support department seems to be quite accessible and knowledgable. However, I use a uptime server monitor, and my total downtime since I joined (today is 1/3) is over 2 hours and 22 minutes. Today's total down time is 45 minutes and there were 17 outages!

I called HostGator support to ask what is going on and they told me that they are dealing with an attack, adding they do not have any uptime guarantee in their terms of service and this kind of downtime is the nature of shared hosting! The usually helpful support was unable to do anything at all, not even to offer me free hosting. The support manager I spoke with recommended that I write a long letter to their executive management because there is nothing else to be done. Good thing that they have a 45-day money back guarantee at least, because 94% uptime is not acceptable for a business host!

The customer service is very poor. My web site was suddenly suspended, then I contacted with the customer center. The team replied that I'm required to upgrade to VPS hosting. By paid $20 more for a month, I don't think my site loads faster in my expectation.

Your notification system sucks. your customer service sucks. I get multiple emails per day giving me 2nd, 3rd, 4th notifications ALL on the SAME day - never got the 1st notification .. signing onto wherever it is I am supposed to go to pay for renewal is impossible. basically, I would just like to move everything I have completely off your system and find another provider. The last time I had a renewal you trashed my site and everything disappeared... I got notifications and threats to pay for things I didn't even have - got a basic apology and then my site shut off 2 days later.. I cannot believe you people are even still in business.

HostGator should be more transparent about the fact that back-ups last only 24 hours. I learned with my call to customer support that if you lose emails and don't report it immediately, HostGator cannot recover your mail.

Also, HostGator biases survey results by putting review stats at the top of the page in most review sites. It is also against best practices in market research to pre-set ratings to "excellent" as in the rating chart above. The user needs to decide the rating without prompting.

Cannot get to my account. Called in waited on hold, the tech hung up on me. I don't have time for games. Wow it is only $10/mo. The bad host on the Internet and it is not going to be worth it. I promise!

Very good support, but various problems with both shared and VPS hosting. These problems have included downtime well over the 'guarenteed' uptime rate, an incident where my site was shut-down without warning, and a fairly serious hacking incident. Overall, a decent host, but probably over-rated judging from the glowing comments found here.

My big issue now is the fact that I am consistently getting hacked. Not being a IT person I get a little help from the support team, but I recently was told that if I don't stop the hackers that I might have my site suspended. That is a concern because I use the recommended security plugins and just keep running into the same issues. I guess having a VSP account doesn't increase the protection that comes with the price.
